Below are the answers to some frequently asked questions.

My students have taken some tests, but the date/time information is wrong?

Since MyWebExam.com has been designed with global use in mind, users must specify their time zone so that the system can calculate the correct date and time for the user's area. Users can set their time zone by clicking "Settings" in the top menu, and then enter an offset (negative or positive) relative to Greenwich Mean Time (GMT).

How do I access my user group's public login page?

You can make tests available to the public by checking the "Enable public access" checkbox on the "Advanced Settings" page for any given test. To access the public login page, where all the public tests for your user group will be displayed, simply append "&MODE=public" to the URL of your login page.

For example, a user group called ACME-INC has a login page with this URL:

    http://www.mywebexam.com/login.asp?group=ACME-INC

The URL for the public test page then becomes:

    http://www.mywebexam.com/login.asp?group=ACME-INC&mode=public

What can I do if the student's computer crashes in the middle of a test?

If the student's computer suffers a hardware or network failure in the middle of a test, the student's session is recorded as unfinished. If you have checked the "Allow students to resume the test" checkbox under "Advanced Settings", they will be able to resume the test by logging in as usual and follow the instructions to resume. When viewing the student's results, any unfinished test sessions will be marked with a red flag. Such sessions may be deleted to give the student a new try (if you have set a limit to how many times a student can attempt a certain test).

10 Tips for Writing Multiple-Choice Questions

The following guidelines can help you prepare better tests:

  1. Word the alternatives clearly and concisely.
  2. Keep the alternatives mutually exclusive.
  3. Keep the alternatives free from clues as to which response is correct.
  4. Keep the grammar of each alternative consistent with the stem.
  5. Include as much of the item as possible in the stem, but do not include irrelevant material.
  6. Keep the alternatives similar in length.
  7. Avoid lifting answers verbatim from the textbook, as the students may recognize the phrasing.
  8. Use plausible distractors; unrealistic or humorous distractors are increase the student's chance of guessing the correct answer.
  9. In general, avoid the alternatives "all of the above" and "none of the above".
  10. Analyze the effectiveness of each item after each administration of the test.
